Firmware for HP 873n Type: Firmware Purpose: Recommended Update Category: Storage Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Microsoft Windows XP Professional Language(s): Global English Fixes: - Resolved DRAM timing issue.­ Prerequisites: - Cyber/­Argus 48x CD-ROM drive - A blank floppy diskette or a blank CD-R disc How To Use: WARNING: While installing this update,­ do not power-off,­ suspend,­ or hibernate the PC.­ Close all applications prior to starting the update.­ 1.­ Download the firmware update program.­ 2.­ Close all applications and remove any discs from the PC optical drives (CD or DVD).­ 3.­ Double-click the icon for update file downloaded in step 1,­ and then click NEXT.­ 4.­ Accept the terms in the HP license agreement,­ and then click NEXT.­ 5.­ You can use either a floppy diskette option or the CD disc option to update the firmware of the drive.­ In the "Cyber/­Argus 48x Firmware Update" window,­ select either Floppy Diskette or CD Disc,­ and then click OK.­ 6.­ If you select Floppy Diskette,­ continue with Step 7.­ If you select CD Disc,­ go to Step 12.­ 7.­ Insert the blank floppy diskette and click OK in the "Cyber/­Argus 48x Firmware Update" window.­ 8.­ Wait a few minutes for the program to make the Firmware Update boot diskette.­ 9.­ Leave the floppy diskette in the floppy disk drive and click OK to restart the PC.­ 10.­ Wait for the PC to boot into the Firmware Update program,­ and follow the instructions to update the firmware.­ Be sure to read the instructions carefully.­ Failure to follow the instructions will damage the drive.­ Make sure any discs are removed from the CD/­DVD drives and the trays are in the closed position before proceeding with the firmware update program.­ 11.­ After the firmware update is completed,­ remove the floppy diskette from the floppy disk drive and restart the PC.­ 12.­ Follow the following steps if you select CD Disc option in Step 5.­ 13.­ Click OK in the "Cyber/­Argus 48x Firmware Update" window.­ The Firmware Update program files are located in the C:HPSoftpaqSP23986 directory.­ 14.­ Use RecordNow to make the boot CD disc to update the firmware of the drive.­ Click START,­ All Programs,­ CD (DVD) Recorder,­ RecordNow,­ RecordNow 15.­ In the RecordNow application window,­ click Make a Data Disc.­ 16.­ Insert the blank CD disc into the drive and click NEXT.­ 17.­ Click Add Files and Folders.­ 18.­ Navigate to the C:HPSoftpaqSP23986 directory,­ select the "SP23986.­ISO",­ and click ADD.­ 19.­ Click YES at the RecordNow dialog window.­ 20.­ Wait for RecordNow to complete making the boot CD disc.­ 21.­ Leave the disc in the drive and restart the PC.­ 22.­ Go to Step 10 to complete the firmware update.­
